Every job uses part of the same battery

A battery cannot spend the same stored energy twice. If more capacity is reserved for backup, less may be available for peak shaving or midday solar capture. That trade-off needs to be visible in the economics.

Set the priority before the controls do it for you

Decide which function wins when two needs collide. On a major event day, resilience may take priority; on a quiet weekday, tariff management may matter more.

Test the conflicts, not just the perfect days

Model the days when use cases compete: a peak arrives after several cloudy hours, or a resilience reserve is needed when solar is high. Those cases reveal whether the value stack is real.

Keep the financial case conservative

Do not add the maximum value of every use case as if all of them can happen independently. Pair this guide with the tariff-first economics model and the battery sizing guide.

In short

Show which battery capacity each use needs. If two jobs need the same reserve at the same moment, both cannot be counted at full value.
