03 Jun BriarPatch Begins Solar Parking Lot Construction
Construction on the BriarPatch Co-op parking and solar project began May 19, 2016. Hats off to BriarPatch for being a community leader in environmental responsibility!
The cooperatively-owned grocery store is installing an innovative 680-panel, 469,000-kilowatt photovoltaic solar array to run along the center of an expanded parking lot. It will be the largest such solar array in Nevada County. The expanded lot will have 45 additional parking spaces while generating an estimated minimum of 55 percent of the store’s energy needs.
The very back section of the lot will be closed, but the rest of the lot should be available, as well as parking on the street. Stay on top of what’s happening with the lot at http://www.briarpatch.coop/parking-lot, a web-cam will be installed soon.
“BriarPatch is a core part of our community. We feel ethically aligned with BriarPatch’s cooperative and green values. This project will impact many Nevada County residents in a positive manner. California Solar is excited to work with BriarPatch on this very significant renewable energy project.” states Lars Ortegren, California Solar owner and CEO.
